Important Safety Information

Viagra® (Sildenafil 100mg)

Prescription Medication

Viagra (sildenafil citrate) is an FDA-approved prescription oral medication indicated for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) in adult men. It works by inhibiting phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5), relaxing smooth muscle in the penis and increasing blood flow to support an erection during sexual stimulation. Viagra requires evaluation and a prescription from a licensed healthcare provider.

Emergency: If you experience chest pain, severe shortness of breath, a prolonged painful erection (over 4 hours), or sudden vision/hearing loss — call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room immediately.

Who Should Not Use Viagra® (Sildenafil 100mg)

  • Women or children — Viagra is indicated for adult men only
  • Men taking nitrate medications (e.g., nitroglycerin, isosorbide) — combination can cause severe, potentially fatal blood pressure drop
  • Men taking riociguat (Adempas) or other soluble guanylate cyclase stimulators
  • Individuals with a known hypersensitivity to sildenafil or any component of the formulation
  • Men for whom sexual activity is medically inadvisable due to cardiovascular status

Warnings & Precautions

Cardiovascular Risk

There is a degree of cardiac risk associated with sexual activity. Men with pre-existing cardiovascular conditions should be evaluated by their provider before starting Viagra.

Priapism

A prolonged, painful erection lasting more than 4 hours (priapism) requires immediate emergency medical attention to prevent permanent tissue damage.

Vision & Hearing Changes

Sudden decrease or loss of vision or hearing has been rarely reported. Stop use immediately and seek emergency care if this occurs.

Hypotension Risk

Sildenafil causes blood vessel dilation. Combining with nitrates, certain alpha-blockers, or other antihypertensives may cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure.

Alcohol Interaction

Excessive alcohol consumption may reduce the effectiveness of Viagra and increase the risk of low blood pressure and other side effects.

Common Side Effects

This is not a complete list. Contact your provider if you experience any concerning symptoms.

  • Headache
  • Flushing (warmth or redness in the face, neck, or chest)
  • Nasal congestion
  • Indigestion or upset stomach
  • Blurred vision or changes in color perception
  • Dizziness
  • Back pain or muscle aches (less common)

Drug Interactions

Always inform your provider of all medications, supplements, and substances you are currently taking.

  • Nitrates (nitroglycerin, isosorbide mononitrate/dinitrate) — contraindicated, risk of severe hypotension
  • Riociguat — contraindicated
  • Alpha-blockers (e.g., doxazosin, tamsulosin) — may cause additive blood pressure lowering
  • Certain antifungals (ketoconazole, itraconazole) — may increase sildenafil blood levels
  • HIV protease inhibitors (ritonavir) — significantly increase sildenafil exposure, dose adjustment required
  • Other PDE5 inhibitors — do not combine

When to Contact Your Provider

  • An erection lasts more than 4 hours
  • You experience sudden vision or hearing loss
  • You have chest pain, dizziness, or nausea during or after sexual activity
  • You are taking nitrate medications and have been prescribed Viagra in error
  • You experience signs of an allergic reaction: rash, hives, swelling of the face, lips, or throat
